The St. Louis Cardinals are in a fun position to close out the regular season. With their playoff spot and seeding already locked up, the final week of the regular season meant one goal: staying healthy and lining up the pitching rotation for a deep run in October.

That's exactly what didn't happen on Tuesday when closer Ryan Helsley was hit with line drive trying to catch a ball hit off the bat of Pittsburgh Pirate Ji Hwan Bae.

Manager Oliver Marmol provided an injury update following the contest, remaining cautiously optimistic.

Marmol indicated that his closer "should be fine," and went on to explain "Just on the way down after catching the line drive, he kind of jammed [his finger], but not anything where medical is super concerned about it."

It wasn't worth Helsley trying to pitch through the issue in an essentially meaningless game, which explains why Marmol pulled his closer following the play.

Helsley spoke up himself about the injury, saying "I don't think there was anything super wrong with it. Just give it some rest and let it resolve itself.''

He's a vital piece to the bullpen and one that the Cardinals will need in top form. Helsley took over the closer role and ran with it, notching 19 saves with a stellar 1.25 ERA and incredible 0.742 WHIP across 64.2 innings pitched.

Marmol and his Cardinals locked up the National League's 3-seed, meaning a Wild Card round date with the 6-seed Philadelphia Phillies. Currently, the Cardinals enter October with +1700 odds (7th) to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
