Daniel Jones - SIC Health Score 93
It is no secret that 2022 is a “prove-it” year for New York Giants QB Daniel Jones. The team did not pick up his 5th-year option, and the organization brought in a new offensive minded head coach, just for Jones. The team has plenty of weapons on offense, and an improved offensive line for Jones to take advantage of.
Jones is entering his fourth career year in the NFL and has already thrown 29 interceptions and lost 36 fumbles. He shows flashes of brilliance but it is often met with too many disaster plays. Jones, being a duel-threat QB , oftentimes leads to high risk, high reward plays for the Giants. The hope is the new coaching staff can simply the game for him, just as the same is being hoped for in Miami, Jacksonville and even Minnesota.
The Duke product was banged up much of last season. He missed the final six games of 2021 with structural damage to his neck. However, Jones said this particular injury is behind him, and he has been participating in OTAs. Jones has also missed time with ankle, hamstring issues and a concussion.
Obviously neck injuries are very worrisome. Jones likely suffered some sort of ligament damage to his neck, and not a disc injury. Jones was able to do all football activities, except take a hit, and that’s what held him out the majority of last season and this offseason.
Daniel Jones Fantasy Implications
The Pro Football Doc's firmly believe the neck issue is behind Jones and it be a non-factor this season. With Jones, it’s more about the pieces around him. Will his offensive line stay healthy and preform? Will his WRs and RB Saquon Barkley stay healthy? As for health, Jones goes into minicamp ready to go. If Jones under delivers in 2022, his time in New York, at least as a starter, is likely over.
