The Kansas City Royals were given little chance to win on Thursday night against the Toronto Blue Jays. After all, 10 members of the team couldn't travel to play in Canada given they are unvaccinated against COVID-19. That didn't matter, though, as the Royals earned a hard-fought 3-1 victory.
Shortstop Nicky Lopez spoke following the game and repeatedly said how much fun the team had. Everyone was pulling for each other in the dugout, especially when rookie Nate Eaton hit his first MLB home run. Lopez also threw in a subtle shot at those unable to play, calling it an "unselfish win."
Kansas City Royals News
The good news is that Kansas City is only in Toronto for three more games this weekend. The Royals do not play the Blue Jays on the road again in 2022.
Among those not allowed to make the trip were two-time All-Star Whit Merrifield and 2022 All-Star Andrew Benintendi. Benintendi is a popular name in the trade market right now, but was taken out of consideration by the New York Yankees due to how often the team has to visit Toronto.
The Royals find themselves in a familiar spot on Friday night as they are slated as +290 underdogs on the moneyline against the Blue Jays, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Kansas City will send veteran Zack Greinke (3-5, 4.52 ERA) to the mound opposite of Toronto's Alek Manoah (9-4. 2.34 ERA).
