The Cleveland Browns travel to face the Carolina Panthers to open up the 2022 NFL season. It's one of the most anticipated matchups of Week 1 because it pits Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield against the team that unceremoniously tossed him to the side this offseason.

While some of Mayfield's former teammates are likely happy to see him again, others are taking the opportunity to air some grievances. In fact, Browns running back Nick Chubb — who played four seasons with the gunslinger — threw some shade toward his former QB's way ahead of the upcoming tilt.

Browns vs Panthers Week 1

When it comes to what Chubb expects from the Panthers QB, Browns insider Tom Withers reports that the veteran RB said, "We all know Baker [Mayfield], so I don't know what to expect."

After all, Mayfield was notorious for his inconsistencies during his stint in Cleveland. In some games, he'd look like one of the better signal-callers in the league. Other times, not so much. However, any shortcomings last year were likely from the torn labrum he was dealing with.

Chubb's comments come just a few days after Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski refused to reveal whether he said goodbye to Mayfield or not. The 27-year-old might have some disdain because of how his former team treated him, but it's clear that the Browns had their own issues with him.

Nevertheless, both sides of this situation have a lot to prove on Sunday. For Mayfield, his goal is to show the Browns that moving on to Deshaun Watson was a mistake. On the other hand, Cleveland wants to prove that he can succeed even without the QB who snapped their 18-year playoff drought.

Regardless of which side viewers fall on, it should make for an entertaining football game.
