The Chicago Bears added to their offense when they drafted wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The speedy Tennessee standout continues to express his excitement for not only the upcoming season, but also the opportunity to play with quarterback Justin Fields.

While Jones is known for his ability to make an impact in the return game, he is no slouch in the receiving attack, either. The 24-year-old racked up 807 yards and 7 touchdowns during his final college season and will look to replicate that level of success with Fields throwing his way.

"I'm really ecstatic. Especially a guy like Justin, a great leader, and seeing what he's accomplished throughout his career and has so much more — his ceiling, he doesn't have a ceiling on him. A true talent, and I just can't wait to receive balls from him."

Jones has long been compared to fellow Volunteers legend Cordarrelle Patterson. Of course, Patterson spent two Pro Bowl seasons in Chicago, but could never find his role outside of returning kicks. Jones is hoping he can turn into a all-around player capable of being a reliable slot receiver.

It's not hard to imagine Jones working his way up the depth chart rather quickly given his success at the collegiate level. He earned a nod on the All-SEC first team in 2021 and averaged 13.0 yards per catch. Jones' 4.31-second 40-yard dash time also shows that his speed is nothing short of elite.

Keep in mind the Bears finished with the eighth-fewest receiving yards last season (3,635) and then lost No. 1 WR Allen Robinson to free agency in the offseason. Jones joins three-year pro Darnell Mooney and newcomer Byron Pringle in what fans hope is a revamped Chicago passing attack.
