Dennis Schroder's time with the Los Angeles Lakers didn't pan out in the championship run that fans were hoping for, but he's one of the most exciting point guard free-agent options in the league. NBA free agency begins at 6 p.m. on August 2, and there should be a handful of suitors vying for the 28-year-old guard.

Let's take a look at three potential teams that could sign Dennis Schroder.

Dennis Schroder Free Agency

1. Miami Heat

Following an appearance in the NBA Bubble Finals, the Miami Heat suffered a somewhat disappointing season in 2021. Miami finished as the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference before getting swept by the eventual champions, Milwaukee Bucks. Miami enters the NBA offseason with about $20 million in expected cap space, one of the higher figures in the league. Schroder could be a potential option, fitting in as a true point guard with all of Miami's playmakers. Jimmy Butler likes to have the ball in his hands, but adding another talented guard running point should help ease some of the pressure. Schroder earned $16 million last season in Los Angeles and may look to play with another winning franchise.

2. New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans don't have much expected cap space heading into the offseason, however, they'll need a point guard. It seems likely that Lonzo Ball is headed elsewhere, potentially the Chicago Bulls. If that comes true, the Pelicans will have a hole at the point guard position. New Orleans loves what they see in the young Kira Lewis Jr., but he's still a few years from competing at any sort of potential All-Star level. The Pelicans have to start surrounding their young superstar Zion Williamson with some talent and wins, and Schroder may be the perfect solution. The point guard averaged 5.8 assists with the Lakers last season despite the ball dominance of LeBron James. This fit may require a sign and trade situation, but the Pelicans have options.

3. Chicago Bulls

As mentioned earlier, the Chicago Bulls will be doing everything they can to sign Lonzo Ball this offseason. However, there's a reality where that doesn't happen. If that's the case, the Bulls will need a plan B at point guard. While Coby White is a great young guard, Chicago wants to take the next step and a veteran point guard helps accomplish that. Chicago doesn't have much cap space to deal with, but there are a number of sign and trade options including Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, Tomas Satoransky and others. With a roster featuring Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic, the Bulls are ready to take the next step following their recent rebuild.
