We have reached the final week of the regular season. The St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers are the two best teams in their division. This Tuesday night NL Central battle focuses on significant advantages to determine who wins this Cardinals vs. Pirates prediction.

Tuesday Night Baseball: Cardinals vs. Brewers Prediction

While both teams have succeeded this season, the Cardinals are the hottest team in baseball right now on track to win their 17th game in a row. Both teams are coming off sweeps in their previous series and will battle one more time before the season ends.

The Brewers have clinched the NL Central with their sweep of the New York Mets and are locked into their seeding for the postseason. With very little to play for, Milwaukee may rest starters leading into the playoffs.

Signed, Sealed, and Delivered

Milwaukee cannot catch the NL West winner for the best record in baseball and have a comfortable lead on the NL East winner for the second seed. With nothing to play for, motivation and rest come into play in this matchup.

They’ll send out Brandon Woodruff again, who recorded a loss his last time out versus these same Cardinals. He has a 2.52 ERA and a 0.947 WHIP this season in 30 starts this year and is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in three career appearances at Busch Stadium.

Milwaukee’s bats have been known to go cold, especially during Woodruff’s appearances, and they have posted a .233 / .318 / .397 slash line this season.

Cardinals’ timely surge

St. Louis was on the verge of missing the 2021 postseason as they sat behind the San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds for the final Wild Card spot just a month ago. With both teams in front of them fading significantly, timed with their incredible winning streak, they have all but secured another postseason birth.

Going toe to toe with Woodruff will be Cardinals’ pitcher Adam Wainwright. At home this season, Wainwright has notched an 8-5 record with a 2.72 ERA and 0.981 WHIP. Wainwright gave up five runs in four innings to the Brewers during his last appearance but has limited them to five total runs over 17.1 innings in his other three starts versus Milwaukee this season.

Cardinals vs. Brewers prediction and pick

The Brewers will likely rest some key players in preparation for the postseason. Since the All-Star break, Woodruff has a poor 2-6 record, clearly highlighting the lack of run support he gets during his starts.

St. Louis is the hottest team in baseball and has everything to play for to make sure they maintain the final Wild Card spot. With a stellar pitcher in Wainwright, who has been even better since the All-Star break, take the Cardinals moneyline (+104 on FanDuel Sportsbook) with a model projection of 5.04 to 4.61.
