Tuesday's MLB trade deadline has brought no shortage of deals as the 6 p.m. ET cut-off quickly approaches. The Kansas City Royals are a team that's been receiving calls regarding multiple pieces, including Scott Barlow and Michael A. Taylor, however, another name has reportedly been added to the block.

MLB insider Mark Feinsand reports that veteran pitcher Brad Keller has been added to the Royals' trade block ahead of the deadline. The 27-year-old right-handed starter is under team control next season before hitting free agency in 2024.

Royals Trade Deadline Rumors

It shouldn't surprise Royals fans too much to see Keller's name on the block. Though he showed promise during his first two seasons in Kansas City, things haven't gone as smoothly since then and this year's struggles only highlight those issues.

The Snellville, GA native has started in 19 contests for the Royals thus far this season, going 5-11 along the way. His 4.18 ERA is an improvement over last year's mark (5.39), but still leaves a lot to be desired.

Nevertheless, Keller did show a lot more promise in July compared to May and June. Appearing in five games last month, the former 2013 eighth-round pick raised his trade value by winning three of those starts, while recording a 3.77 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 28.2 innings.

Will Keller transform a team into a World Series lock? Probably not, but he doesn't have to. He's a solid option to have as a back-of-the-rotation arm that can eat up innings as the season goes on. Any contender looking to add a pitcher could use a player like him.

At the end of the day, Keller still has a year left of arbitration on his deal, so the Royals can hold on to him if they wish. Having said that, the extra year under team control only adds to his value, meaning it'd be smarter to move him before the clock strikes 6 p.m. ET.
