Just as the Pittsburgh Steelers welcomed back star T.J. Watt in Week 10, this defense got more bad injury news, as safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was sidelined due to appendicitis. Initial reports suggested the Pro Bowl talent could miss several weeks, dealing a big blow to this unit.
However, head coach Mike Tomlin has now provided a huge update on the safety's status for Week 11.
Tomlin told reporters he's "really positive" about Fitzpatrick's chances of playing against the Cincinnati Bengals. The coach revealed his secondary stud even wanted to suit up this past Sunday after his appendectomy, showing how eager he is to return.
The two-time All-Pro only missing one week would be massive for the Steelers as they look to turn their season. Fitzpatrick has been a disruptor to opposing passing attacks in 2022, racking up 3 interceptions this season, including a touchdown return. He's also registered 6 passes defended while patrolling the secondary.
Pittsburgh's defense getting healthier sets this team up to make some noise in the second half. Hopefully Fitzpatrick is able to suit up for the Steelers' divisional clash on Sunday. Cincinnati is an early 4.5-point favorite ahead of that matchup, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
