Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. turned in a solid rookie campaign despite sitting out Weeks 4-6 due to calf surgery. His performance down the stretch was particularly encouraging, and big things could be in store for the second-year wideout with new quarterback Carson Wentz in town.

Pittman presents some serious potential to be a breakout player heading into this fantasy football season.

Michael Pittman Fantasy Outlook

Pittman finished as WR79 in PPR scoring last year after missing three games. He's currently being drafted as WR47, according to FantasyPros, which conveys serious optimism about him heading into Year 2.

Pittman saw 61 targets as a rookie, turning those into 40 receptions, 503 yards and 1 touchdown. It was a modest season, but it was really a tale of two halves for the former USC standout.

He saw 12 targets over his first three games, then sat out Weeks 4-6, and earned 1 target in his return in Week 8. However, from Weeks 9-17, Pittman racked up 48 targets (5.3 per game), 30 receptions and 424 of his 503 yards.

Pittman then carried that momentum into the postseason, seeing a team-high 10 targets in the Colts' Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills. He turned that into 5 catches for 90 yards despite an average target depth of just 6.6 yards.

The 54 yards after catch he racked up showcases his big-play ability, which could be unleashed with Wentz.

Pittman is in prime position to see his role take off heading into his second season. T.Y. Hilton will turn 32 this year, and the 6-foot-4 Pittman could become a favorite target for his new QB over Zach Pascal and Parris Campbell.

Health will be a big factor that determines Pittman's production this season, both in terms of his own and his quarterback's. But his promising run to end last year, coupled with a full offseason to get better, makes him an intriguing wideout to take a flyer on in later rounds.

Pittman comes in at WR45 in The Duel's 2021 PPR fantasy football rankings.
