Mets Reveal Plans for DH Spot in 2023

The New York Mets went on a massive offseason spending spree after their early exit from the 2022 postseason, but the numerous additions mean they have some tough decisions to make on their starting lineup heading into 2023.
A report from MLB Trade Rumors revealed the Mets have some early ideas on how to handle their DH duties once Opening Day rolls around in late March.

Mets Lineup 2023
Instead of utilizing a full-time DH last year, New York opted for a rotation of players at the position and will likely do so again this year. Daniel Vogelbach provided a spark last season with his .830 OPS after coming over from the Pittsburgh Pirates and will presumably get the lion's share of at-bats against right-handed pitchers.
Manager Buck Showalter will likely go a different route against lefties, however, which is where offseason additions Tommy Pham and Darin Ruf fit into the equation. They'll have to hit to keep their jobs, however.
New York also faces an interesting situation regarding top prospects Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty. The two are regarded as talented hitters but enter the season with serious question marks around their defensive abilities at catcher and third base, respectively.
The report suggests both of them could potentially slide into a DH role if their defensive issues persist. Additionally, Eduardo Escobar is a strong option should Baty take over for him at the hot corner.
The Mets are stacked and having too many quality bats is definitely a good problem to have. Led by its potent lineup, New York holds +750 odds to win the 2023 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
