The New York Mets made a huge splash right as the Winter Meetings were kicking off by singing AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander to a two-year deal with an option for a third.

Tommy Hunter Mets Contract

Verlander is coming off arguably the best season of his career and at age 39, has shown no signs of slowing down. The Mets seem far from done, though. On Tuesday, the tea announced the signing of relief pitcher Tommy Hunter to a minor league contract.

Hunter appeared in 18 games for the Mets last season, pitching to a stellar 2.42 ERA, recording roughly one strikeout per inning on average.

Hunter should prove to be a valuable piece in 2023 as the Mets continue to rebuild or reshape their pitching staff for next season.

Currently, the Mets have +900 odds to win the 2023 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest MLB odds.
