The New York Mets are currently in first place in the National League East division with a record of 36-28 and a major reason why is the stellar play of ace Jacob deGrom. Fortunately, deGrom looks on track to start Monday against the Atlanta Braves despite battling a shoulder injury.

Jacob deGrom Injury Update

The 33-year-old starting pitcher was removed during his last start due to right shoulder discomfort, but there seems to no reason for concern right now. Although many people thought he suffered the injury during a pitch, deGrom now thinks he hurt himself while taking a swing he took at the plate.

The two-time Cy Young winner played catch before the Mets' game on Sunday afternoon and told reporters that he felt good. It's important for the Mets to make sure they do not rush their best pitcher back too quickly. However, it seems like deGrom is ready to get on the mound and keep dominating opposing hitters.

deGrom has been nothing short of amazing so far this season as he ranks No. 1 amongst MLB starters in ERA (0.54), WHIP (0.51) and batting average against (.117). Overall, the commanding righty is 6-2 on the year with 111 strikeouts across 11 starts (67.0 innings pitched).

This squad seem to be right in line for a playoff push this season and they will need their NL Cy Young candidate healthy in order to get over the hump. The Mets are tied for the third-best odds to win the World Series at +850, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
