Carlos Carrasco was a key offseason addition for the New York Mets ahead of the 2021 campaign. However, the starting pitcher suffered a torn hamstring in March and has been working his way back to game shape.

After some positive momentum regarding a return, Carrasco has unfortunately suffered a setback.

The starter had started some work on the mound, a welcome sign in his recovery. But he's now been forced to stop his throwing sessions, which halts his recovery procress.

The team claims there's been no reinjury and it's a matter of building up his strength, yet that's still concerning given the Mets' rotation could use him right now. He clearly hadn't progressed enough to ramp up his throwing, and he'll need work in the minors before even thinking of a return to the majors.

Carrasco's current status casts serious doubt on his availability this month and possibly next month as well. The Mets are currently leading the NL East by 3.5 games, but this rotation could use a serious boost if they hope to keep things that way and not fall off as the season progresses.
