The New York Mets' took a major hit when ace Jacob deGrom was placed on the injured list after experiencing tightness on his right side. However, fans can breathe a sigh of relief as it looks like the right-hander will be back with the big league club this upcoming week.
Jacob deGrom Injury Update
deGrom had to leave his last MLB start after just five innings of work, but the MRI he took following the game came back clean. His trip to the IL and subsequent rehab start for the Single-A St. Lucie Mets was just a precautionary move by the team to ensure he remains in top form.
In fact, deGrom looked amazing in his rehab start striking out eight batters in 3.0 innings pitched last night. He only had to toss 41 pitches and his fastball reached 102 mph. It looks like deGrom's next start for the Mets could be either May 25 or 26 against the Colorado Rockies.
This is great news for the Mets as deGrom remains one of the best pitchers in baseball. He has been an early season Cy Young award favorite once again, posting a 0.68 ERA and .600 WHIP in 40.0 innings pitched.
Overall, deGrom has a 3-2 record on the year and has racked up 65 strikeouts. He leads a strong Mets rotation and gives the team a major boost in their hopes of making the postseason. The Mets currently have odds set at -110 to win the NL East division, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
