The New York Mets continue to survive a barrage of injuries and this team enters the second third of the 2021 MLB season with a 3.5-game lead in the NL East. From the injury department, everything seems to have gone wrong, but this team continues to win ballgames.
New York addressed the injuries on Friday by adding some infield depth with the latest free-agent signing of Cheslor Cuthbert.

Cuthbert agreed to a minor league contract, however, this is definitely a safety blanket for the Mets. New York currently has two infielders in Jeff McNeil and Jonathan Villar on the shelf. Villar seems to have avoided getting placed on the IL, but McNeil could be out for a span with his hamstring issues.
The 28-year-old Cuthbert is a former top prospect from the Kansas City Royals. He plays both first base and third base and owns five years of MLB experience. Although Cuthbert never lived up to his potential at the plate, he still owns a modest career slashing line of .250/.300/.378 including 27 home runs and 119 RBIs.
Right now, the Mets still own favorable odds (-250) to win the NL East, according to the latest MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. If the injury bug continues to plague this team, at least there are some reinforcements with MLB potential waiting in the wings at the minor league level.
