The New York Jets 2021 season got off to a rough start in more ways than one on Sunday. While they lost the game to the Carolina Panthers and their former quarterback Sam Darnold, New York also sustained a serious injury loss. However, the news isn't as bad as it was originally thought to be.

When starting left tackle Mekhi Becton went down with a knee injury on Sunday, and looked to be in an excruciating amount of pain, the team and the fans feared the worst. Usually when you see that, it means the player is done for the season with a torn ACL or some other similarly serious knee injury.

Mekhi Becton Injury Update

Becton will be out for some extended time (4-6 weeks) with a dislocated knee cap, but this is much better news than the potential alternative of losing him for the rest of the season.

The 11th overall pick in 2020, Becton had an encouraging rookie season and was playing well on Sunday prior to the injury. Being so young and the Jets not having Super Bowl aspirations this season, it's easy to assume the Jets will play it safe with Becton's timetable.

At this point they are probably just happy he will be able to suit up again in 2021.
