The impending trade of Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is one of the 2021 offseason's biggest stories. A number of teams are already inquiring about Stafford's services, and there's a few destinations that make a ton of sense for the soon-to-be 33-year-old franchise QB.
What the Lions could command in a Stafford deal has been hypothesized, and it appears the minimum price to get a conversation going has been revealed.
Matthew Stafford Trade Rumors
According to league insider Peter King, at least five teams are expected to offer at least one first-round pick in a trade package. And that's likely just the starting point. But with that many teams seriously interested, the Lions' haul could accumulate if a bidding war happens.
A first-round pick isn't a small sum to pay, but to land a top-15 quarterback, any team serious about upgrading should be willing to put that (and likely more) on the line.
Stafford's name is already being linked to two teams in particular, with the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers both having the assets to pull off a trade.
Either team could lock themselves into contender status for 2021 if they make a Stafford deal, which means they could overpay in order to make sure the quarterback isn't nabbed by another team.
The current odds from FanDuel Sportsbook have the Colts (+210) as favorites to land Stafford, followed by the 49ers (+350) and New England Patriots (+350).
