The Carolina Panthers are set to get a starting offensive lineman back ahead of their Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Head coach Matt Rhule has announced that right guard John Miller is set to return after missing the Panthers' season opener while recovering from COVID-19.

Panthers News

Miller may not play for the entirety of the game, but this is good news no matter how you look at it. The veteran lineman started 14 games for Carolina last season and finished with a 61.2 overall ProFootballFocus grade. Dennis Daley will return to his backup role after starting in Week 1.

The seventh-year pro's return comes at the exact right time. Miller committed just 6 penalties and allowed 3 sacks during the 2020 season. He rejoins an offensive line that ranked dead-last in Pass Block Win Rate (20 percent) in Week 1, according to ESPN Analytics.

In fact, quarterback Sam Darnold was pressured on 33 percent of his dropbacks. The offensive line will need to step up on Sunday going up against a Saints' defense that held the Green Bay Packers to just 229.0 total yards in Week 1. This matchup could easily be decided within the trenches.

The Panthers are currently slated as 3.5-point home underdogs with a moneyline price set at +166, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. They also have odds set at +5000 to win the NFC Conference.
