Matt Corral's NFL dreams were put on pause earlier this week when it was revealed that he had suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury. While some rookies might wallow in pity, that wasn't the case for the Carolina Panthers quarterback, who took to Twitter with a mature response to his injury.
Matt Corral Injury News
Corral tweeted out "God, I am thankful for the experiences," on Friday morning. The tweet shows that he at least appreciates the training camp and preseason action that he was healthy enough to participate in. That sort of mindset should help him come back with a purpose in 2023.
The former Ole Miss product completed 10 passes for 69 yards over two preseason games. His performance may not have been impressive, but that's okay. Corral was seen as a project QB heading into the 2022 NFL Draft. Since the Panthers already have Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, there were no plans for the rookie to start this fall.
Although Corral's spirits are high, Lisfranc surgeries are no joke. Those who undergo the procedure are usually in a boot for up to three months, while some medical experts add that it can be up to a year (if not more) to resume something as simple as going out for a run.
Hopefully, Corral can use the upcoming season to learn from his coaches and veteran teammates. Assuming that he has a full recovery, the Panthers clearly see him as an important part of the future considering that they used a third-round pick on him.
