A scary scene took place in Thursday's game between the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres when Jon Berti was hit by a pitch in the head. He went down in obvious pain, but he encouragingly walked off of the field under his own power.
After the game, the Marlins got an update on Berti's health.
Jon Berti Injury
Berti needed three stitches for a laceration on the back of his head and has a concussion. The pitch luckily caught part of his helmet to brace some of the blow, but he'll need a stint on the injured list to fully recover.
The Marlins will miss Berti's flexibility in the field, especially with players like Jazz Chisholm and Jesus Sanchez currently on the injured list. Berti has suited up at third base, second base and all three outfield positions this season. He's recorded 4 home runs, 19 RBIs and 8 stolen bases while slashing .210/.311/.313.
Miami owns +5000 odds to win the NL East, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
