The Seattle Mariners made the first big splash of the offseason on Wednesday when they acquired All-Star outfielder Teoscar Hernandez from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for RHP Erik Swanson and LHP Adam Macko. They have remained busy since then, however, looking into other outfielders and checking in on a second baseman as well.
Mariners Kolten Wong Rumors
Recent reports say that the Mariners have asked the Milwaukee Brewers about the availability of second baseman Kolten Wong.
Wong has one year and $10 million left on his deal before he hits free agency following the 2023 season. Accordingly, the Brewers may be looking to move him if he isn't in their long-term plans beyond next year.
The 32-year-old is coming off one of the best offensive campaigns of his career after slashing .251/.339/.430 with a career-high 15 home runs for Milwaukee last year. He's also a good baserunner and defender with a pair of Gold Gloves and two seasons with 20+ steals on his resume.
After winning 90 games in each of the last two seasons and finally ending their two-decade playoff drought in 2022, the Mariners are pushing their chips in an effort to win their first World Series in franchise history. Their strategy seems to be working, as they're currently tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for the eighth-best championship odds (+1800) on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
