Marcus Stroman Reveals Potential Timeline for His Return From Injury

Marcus Stroman's first season with the Chicago Cubs hasn't gone as planned. Aside from an underwhelming statistical start, the 31-year-old right-handed starter landed on the 15-day injured reserve last week due to shoulder inflammation.

After playing catch during Friday's practice, Stroman spoke to reporters about a possible return timetable. Although he's unable to put an exact length on his recovery, the Medford, NY native hopes to be back in the Cubs' rotation in "a few weeks."

Though he isn't certain, Stroman thinks that an 18-day period between May 1 and May 19 starts is a reason why his shoulder acted up. He spent that time on the IL due to COVID-19 but hasn't felt right since. He's also unsure if he'll need to undergo a minor-league rehab stint.

Stroman could use the time off to get his head back in the right place. He's an uninspiring 2-5 in nine starts so far in 2022, pitching to a 5.32 ERA — the second-worst of his career — along with a 1.225 WHIP.
