Things haven't gone the way the San Francisco Giants envisioned in 2022. After finishing with a franchise-record 107 wins a year ago, the team is on pace to finish at just 80 wins and potentially miss the postseason.
There are a lot of reasons to point to for San Francisco's lack of success, but starting pitcher Logan Webb isn't one of them. The fourth-year veteran has put together another solid campaign, pitching to a 3.33 ERA in his MLB-leading 26 starts.
Those personal successes didn't stop Webb from sharing a depressing quote on his mindset throughout the 2022 season.
Webb put things simply, saying "I just really haven't been happy with this whole year."
It makes sense considering the circumstances. San Francisco has spent just seven days in first place throughout the entire season and their biggest division lead was a mere 0.5 games.
That's a far cry from last year's near wire-to-wire dominance when the club spent 129 days in first place and held as much as a 5-game lead in the standings.
Webb actually flirted with a sub-3.00 ERA for much of the year before a recent stretch of tough games. The 25-year-old righty lost two straight games where he couldn't pitch beyond 4.2 innings and owns a disappointing 5.30 ERA in his past six starts. Prior to this stretch, Webb owned a stellar 2.77 ERA.
The Giants now sit a full 25.0 games out of the division race and 5.5 games back of the final NL Wild Card Spot. FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds aren't liking the Giants to turn things around, either. As it stands, the Giants holds just +2000 odds to make the postseason.
