Lions Sign Darrelle Revis' Cousin Away From Steelers

The Detroit Lions are 0-5 to start the 2021 NFL season and now they're bringing in an NFL legend's cousin to give them a hand.
Cornerback Mark Gilbert — cousin of seven-time Pro-Bowl and Super Bowl-winning CB Darrelle Revis — was signed to Detroit's 53-man roster, according to his agent, Zac Hiller. The 24-year-old had been on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad until now after going undrafted at the 2021 NFL Draft.

Gilbert spent four seasons with the Duke Blue Devils, playing 44 games for the school in that span. He finished his collegiate career with 65 total tackles, 17 passes defended and 7 interceptions.
Hopefully, fans don't expect Gilbert to be anything like Revis. A shoe-in for the Hall of Fame, Revis was one of the most dominant cornerbacks of all time. With that being said, Gilbert is still young and he could have a chance to see some decent playing time on a weak Lions team.
Detroit hasn't had the best luck when it comes to cornerbacks this season. The Lions lost Jeff Okudah to a ruptured Achilles in the season opener before losing 2021 third-round pick Ifeatu Melifonwu a few weeks later to a quadriceps injury.
Despite the team's struggles, the Lions haven't been awful against the pass. Detroit is surrendering 251.6 passing yards (17th) and 1.6 touchdowns per game (T-14th).
Fans will get their first chance to see Gilbert in a Lions uniform when Detroit faces the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The Lions will enter as the +158 underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
