The Detroit Lions are in search of a new offensive coordinator after Anthony Lynn was fired following the 2021 season. One rumored candidate was supposedly former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy. However, a Lions employee shut down that idea when asked about it on Friday morning.

A simple no would've sufficed, but the employee emphatically dismissed the question. Lions fans are surely happy after the majority of them spoke out negatively on social media yesterday. That is when the rumor originally surfaced thanks to a piece written about Nagy by Sports Illustrated.

Overall, Nagy posted a 34-31 record (0-2 playoffs) across four seasons in Chicago. He was never quite able to get a grip on the offensive side of the ball, though. He struggled to work with starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and led the Bears to just one top-10 scoring finish during his tenure.

Reports claim the current favorite to land the job is Lions tight ends coach Ben Johnson. Johnson has spoken with head coach Dan Campbell multiple times regarding to vacant OC position and is well-regarded in the franchise. The role he played in developing TJ Hockenson cannot be overlooked.

No matter what, it is clear that Detroit needs someone that can help transform a rather disappointing offense. The Lions finished amongst the bottom 10 NFL teams on a per-game basis in statistical categories including points (19.1), third down conversions (4.4) and time of possession (28:50).
