Lions Draft Rumors Suggest Detroit Could Trade Up to No. 1 Pick

It's not often that a team that owns the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft attempts to move up one spot in a trade, especially when it isn't for a quarterback. Rumors suggest that may be the case with the Detroit Lions, though. The team has reportedly looked into what it would cost to make the move.
.@dpbrugler on The Athletic Football Show this week: "There’s even chatter ... about the Lions looking at what it would cost to move up to No. 1 and get Hutchinson. But I also think Travon Walker should be in that conversation at No. 2. …https://t.co/EeOSX9CAGx

Lions Trade Rumors
Dane Brugler of The Athletic said there is chatter throughout the league that Detroit is zeroing in on defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. Of course, the Michigan Wolverines standout is projected to go to the Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 1. That means the Lions would have to go all-in on a deal to draft him.
Hutchinson destroyed opposing offensive lines during his senior season, finishing the year with 62 tackles (16.5 for loss) and 14.0 sacks. The 21-year-old showed off his versatility on defense by breaking up 3 passes and forcing 2 fumbles as well. He has all the makings of a day one starter.
The Lions posted the third-fewest sacks in the NFL last season (30.0) and desperately need playmakers along the edge. Travon Walker and Kayvon Thibodeaux are names to keep an eye on if Detroit stays at No. 2, but a quarterback shouldn't be ruled out given Jared Goff's struggles in 2021.
For now, Lions fans will simply have to wait and see if the front office decides to mix things up or not. It's safe to say everyone in the organization is aiming to secure the team's first playoff berth since the 2016 season. The 2022 NFL Draft is set to get underway on Thursday, April 28 on ESPN/ABC.
