There aren't many positive storylines surrounding the Detroit Lions right now, but it does seem like they have the tight end position locked down for years to come. The Detroit coaching staff continues to praise third-year starting tight end T.J. Hockenson and claim the sky is the limit for him.

Specifically, tight ends coach Ben Johnson stated how he views Hockenson as an ascending player. He cited that Hockenson's improvement from 2019 to 2020 was only the first step in his progression.

"There's plenty of meat still on the bone. We're looking forward to getting even more from him."

Hockenson impressed last season by racking up 723 receiving yards on 67 receptions. He also scored 6 touchdowns and doubled his production in almost every category from his rookie year. All of Hockenson's hard work paid off as he was named to his first Pro Bowl in 2020.

The former Iowa Hawkeye enters training camp as new quarterback Jared Goffs' top option in the passing game. Hockenson acts as a bright spot on this team and could be even better next year if he improves on his catch percentage. Bettering his career mark of 61.9% would only increase his production.

The Lions have a new offensive coordinator heading into training camp, so it will be interesting to see if the offense takes on a new strategy at all. All things considered, don't be surprised if Hockenson becomes a household name in the NFL as early as next fall.
