The Detroit Lions are going to have to keep quarterback Jared Goff upright and healthy if they want any chance of exceeding expectations in 2022. The only problem is that starting center Frank Ragnow missed practice on Thursday, which leaves his status for Week 1 in question right now.

Frank Ragnow Injury

This one came out of nowhere. Ragnow popped up on the injury report on Wednesday after being limited in practice with a groin issue. It seems to have worsened as he sat out entirely on Thursday. Seeing the Pro Bowler get back to full health in just a matter of days seems unlikely at this point.

It seems even more unlikely considering the Lions signed center Ross Pierschbacher to the practice squad. The former fifth-round pick out of Alabama has logged just one snap in the NFL across eight games. Pierschbacher spent the 2022 offseason with the New York Jets before being cut in August.

Losing Ragnow would be a brutal blow for the Lions. The four-year pro hasn't allowed a single sack and has only drawn three penalties in 1,152 snaps played over the last two years. If Ragnow cannot suit up, look for the Lions to turn to Evan Brown, who started 12 games at center last season.

This news comes after the Lions lost starting lineman Halapoulivaati Vaitai for at least four games as he was placed on the injured reserve with a back injury. For now, the Lions are slated as a 3.5-point underdog against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
