Major League Baseball's free agency period is here and the Boston Red Sox have several notable players hitting the open market. One of those free agents happens to be Nathan Eovaldi, who's spent the last four-and-a-half seasons in Boston.

A former MLB All-Star, Eovaldi should see plenty of attention this offseason. As for what his next contract could look like, insider Kiley McDaniel projects that the 32-year-old will secure a fairly solid payday.

Nathan Eovaldi Free Agency

McDaniel has Eovaldi receiving a two-year, $ 30 million contract in free agency. The average annual value (AAV) of that deal is $15 million, which is comparable to his last contract — four years at $68 million with an AAV of $17 million.

One reason why Eovaldi could get this sort of deal at this stage of his career is because he "still sits 95-97 mph with a power arsenal," as per McDaniel. The ESPN insider also cites the righty as someone who is "unlikely to be kicked off the staff for a playoff run" compared to softer-throwing pitchers.

Held to 20 starts in 2022 due to injury, Eovaldi was one of the brighter spots of the Red Sox's season. He went a respectable 6-3 with a 3.87 ERA and 1.235 WHIP in those outings, averaging 8.5 strikeouts and 1.6 walks per nine innings.

It was also only back in 2021 when Eovaldi finished fourth in AL Cy Young voting. Perhaps a change of scenery and playing for a contender could help him get back to that level.
