Ahead of the 2021 MLB season, people weren't sure if the Chicago Cubs were going to rebuild or try for another World Series title. The team currently has a 17-17 record and sits third in the NL Central. Considering they're World Series long shots (+6000) on FanDuel Sportsbook and are trying to save money this season, the Cubs could embrace a rebuild sooner than later.

An example of how the Cubs can move forward with the rebuild and save money in the process would be trading first basemen Anthony Rizzo. He's a proven winner, having won several awards including four Golden Gloves and a World Series ring in 2016. However, Rizzo is making $16.5 million this season and trading him would help the Cubs.

A trade rumor going around sees Rizzo being sent to the Yankees in an effort to help them win the World Series.

With that being said, here are three of the most likely trade destinations for Rizzo.

Anthony Rizzo Trade Rumors

3. Tampa Bay Rays

As the Yankees chase the Boston Red Sox, the Tampa Bay Rays aren't that far behind as they also sit 3.5 games back of first place. If they want to keep pace with their divisional rivals, they could go after Rizzo. He'd instantly become the top first baseman on the Rays' depth chart or they could even use him as the designated hitter. Rizzo's slashing .229/.336/.424 to start the season, which could be better, so maybe a change of scenary will help him. Plus, Rizzo is a Florida native and would get an opportunity to play in his home state.

2. Toronto Blue Jays

If the Toronto Blue Jays want to take the next step into becoming American League contenders, they should take a serious look at Rizzo. First of all, the team's owners can more than afford him for the rest of the season and they have enough prospects to entice the rebuilding Cubs. Rowdy Tellez isn't hitting that well as the Blues Jays' designated hitter. Bringing Rizzo would give the club the option of alternating between him and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at the DH and first base positions. Rizzo's experience would also be beneficial if he can pass it down to the Jays' young guns.

1. New York Yankees

Considering they've already been named as a potential trade partner, it would shock anyone if the New York Yankees acquired Rizzo. The aforementioned potential trade includes Rizzo and catcher Willson Contreras being traded to New York in exchange for Gary Sanchez and Luis Gil, one of the top pitching prospects in the league. With the Yankees are surging as of late as they chase the Red Sox for the top spot in the AL East, it'd make sense for them to chase after Rizzo to help put them over the top.
