The New York Jets' 2020 campaign has gotten off to a disastrous start. Le'Veon Bell went down with a hamstring injury in a Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills, and the team has now officially placed him on IR. That means Bell will be out for the next three weeks, at least.
The move will boost Frank Gore's fantasy outlook. It also caused the Jets to sign Kalen Ballage, so technically his fantasy outlook gets a boost as well – though he's certainly not worth rostering.
Frank Gore Fantasy Value
Gore, who should be the team's starter, isn't going to be too reliable even with the uptick in volume. New York plays the San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos in the next three weeks.
The Jets are 7-point underdogs in Week 2 against SF, and they project to be big underdogs in each game. Likely to be playing from behind, Gore will likely be getting limited carries on an inefficient offense. That's not a recipe for success.
Kalen Ballage Fantasy Outlook
But no RB was less successful than Kalen Ballage last year. He turned 74 rushes into 135 rushing yards in 2019 (1.8 yards per carry). He's the only running back since 1970 to record more than 70 carries but average fewer than 1.9 yards per carry.
In his defense he was on the terrible 2019 Miami Dolphins offense, but it's not like the 2020 New York Jets look much better. He can be ignored in any fantasy format.
