Latavius Murray Fantasy Outlook Includes Huge Alvin Kamara Handcuff Potential
When it comes to the New Orleans Saints, there's no question about it: Alvin Kamara is the team's No. 1 running back. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that he's the only Saints player with value in the backfield. Seventh-year RB Latavius Murray will once again serve as Kamara's backup, thus giving him a lot of potential as the Kamara's handcuff.
Judging by how Murray played last year, Kamara owners would be silly not to stash him on their bench.
Latavius Murray Fantasy Outlook
Even though Kamara played in 15 games for the Saints last year, Murray still put up pretty impressive numbers as the backup. He ended up playing in 15 contests as well, finishing with 146 rushing attempts for 656 yards and 4 touchdowns, with his 43.7 yards rushing yards per game being his highest average since 2017. Murray even got involved in the passing game, catching 88.5% of his targets (23-for-26) for 176 receiving yards and another touchdown.
If Kamara goes down, Murray could find himself in the RB1 conversation pretty quickly.
Another thing that could boost Murray's value is the Saints' quarterback situation. If Jameis Winston ends up being the team's starting QB, Murray could see even more rushing attempts as the veteran gunslinger rushes a lot less than Taysom Hill. In fact, Hill rushed for 457 yards and 8 touchdowns last year.
He'll likely still be a major part of New Orleans' offense even as a gadget player, however, he likely won't see as much volume as he did last year, which bodes well for the Saints backfield.
Latavius Murray ADP
Murray has an averaged draft position (ADP) of 128.3 and is listed as RB45, according to Fantasy Pros. Meanwhile, he's ranked as RB45 on The Duel's fantasy football rankings and is a must-have option for Kamara managers.
