One Last-Minute Trade the Reds Need to Make Before the Deadline

After months of trade rumors swirling, the MLB trade deadline comes into effect when the clock strikes 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The Cincinnati Reds have already established themselves as sellers recently, having already moved on from the likes of Luis Castillo and Tommy Pham.
Nevertheless, general manager Nick Krall still has some decent assets that he can move to help with the future. One player that Krall should at least consider moving at the last minute is the versatile Brandon Drury.
Reds Trade Rumors
Drury's trade stock has never been higher due to his having a career year at the plate. The 29-year-old journeyman has established career-highs in home runs (20) and RBIs (59) through 92 games thus far. On top of that, he's slashing .274/.335/.520 and leads all Reds with 182 total bases.
Though his offense is attractive, so is what Drury brings to the defensive side of the ball. He's played each infield position at least twice this season and also has experience in the outfield, where he owns a .990 fielding percentage. That's the sort of versatility that contenders dream of adding.
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal reported on Monday that the Reds are thinking about keeping Drury with an extension in mind. As much as fans would love re-signing a player who's having a career year, there's also the chance that talks could fall apart and Cincinnati loses him for nothing in the offseason.

The smart thing for Krall and co. to do is to capitalize on Drury's value while they can. For all they know, his performance this season could be a one-off. If that's the case they are going to wish that they traded him.
Fortunately, there like isn't any shortage of suitors when it comes to Drury's bat. His status as an upcoming free agent makes him an attractive rental player for contenders, meaning the Reds must capitalize on his value with it being at an all-time high.
