Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson gutted through the abdominal injury he picked up in Week 15 in order to play on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately, however, the issue was more serious than expected. Johnson is dealing with a torn tendon, which many believed would end his regular season and require surgery.
Now the Pro Bowler's injury situation has taken a drastic turn.
Lane Johnson Injury Update
Johnson has elected to hold off on surgery after talking with several experts. Instead, he'll use this time to rehab before Philadelphia plays in the postseason.
This news is certainly a boost for the Eagles. Johnson's been one of the league's most dominant OTs once again this year, earning a stellar 83.2 overall grade from ProFootballFocus. The 32-year-old also earned the fourth Pro Bowl nod of his career in 2022 while allowing zero sacks over 972 snaps played.
Hopefully the time off is all Johnson needs to get back to playing at an elite level. He'll get at least the next two weeks as Philly concludes its regular-season schedule, but the team can buy him an extra week if they secure the No. 1 seed and a bye in the Wild Card Round. All the Eagles need to do is win one of their next two games for that to happen.
Johnson's health will be a major story to follow as Philadelphia heads into the postseason. The Eagles are currently +490 (No. 3) in FanDuel Sportsbook's Super Bowl odds.
