Lamar Miller Fantasy Outlook Gets a Huge Boost From Signing With New England Patriots

After becoming a free agent following an entire missed season due to a torn ACL in 2019, former Houston Texans running back Lamar Miller has signed with the New England Patriots.
It's hard to know how Miller will look returning from a serious injury, but this landing spot gives him some interesting fantasy football appeal in 2020.

Lamar Miller Fantasy Football Value With Patriots
This signing likely points to a negative outlook for Sony Michel and his foot injury. Michel is at risk of missing games at the start of the season, and adding a veteran like Miller is a pretty good indicator that he will indeed be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks.
Michel being sidelined also opens up a ton of volume on the ground, as he just tallied 247 rush attempts (tied for ninth in the NFL) in 2019.
When healthy, Miller has proven that he can stand up to workhorse volume. He had at least 235 touches in five consecutive seasons from 2014 to 2018, handling at least 259 (the number Michel had last year) in both 2016 and 2017.
Miller is also a more well-rounded threat than Michel. While he's not going to steal receiving work away from James White, his six consecutive seasons of 35-plus targets showcase a far more versatile skillset than Michel, who doesn't even have a combined 35 targets through two years in New England.

It remains to be seen where Miller's draft cost is going to settle following this signing, but if news on his health is positive and word on Michel's health isn't, then Miller could be a high-upside pick in the mid to late rounds of 2020 fantasy football drafts.
