When Kyle Allen was announced as the Week 3 starter for the Carolina Panthers, in place of the injured Cam Newton, many assumed things couldn't get any worse following the team's offensive struggles through two weeks. Although, things got a lot better, as Allen led the Panthers to a 38-20 road win over the Arizona Cardinals, throwing for 261 yards and four touchdowns.
The former Texas A&M Aggie defeated his one-time teammate Kyler Murray last week, connecting with all three of the Panthers' top offensive options – D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel and Greg Olsen (twice) – for touchdowns. Allen did so completing 19-of-26 passes, while notching 10.0 yards per attempt.
Cam Newton Injury
With Cam out again for Week 4, Allen will get at least one more start at the Houston Texans. While going against J.J. Watt and company on the road is certainly not an easy matchup, Houston is still giving up the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season, as Drew Brees, Gardner Minshew and Phillip Rivers all had success throwing the ball against the Texans.
Allen will now face another old acquaintance in Houston QB DeShaun Watson, who he has known since high school. The game has serious shootout potential, with the week's fifth-highest total at 47.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
If Allen can get some clean pockets against the Texans' formidable pass rush, it should open up plenty of opportunity. He makes for a great QB1 streamer in season-long leagues.
