The New Orleans Saints shored up the linebacker position by re-signing linebacker Kwon Alexander on Thursday. The seven-year veteran has been working his way back from an Achilles injury and provided a great update on his status by stating that he is 100% healthy again.
Kwon Alexander Injury Update
Alexander originally suffered the injury back in December and has been rehabbing in order to prove to teams that he can still ball out. The Saints decided to give the 2017 Pro-Bowler another shot on a one-year deal worth up to $3 million and pair him up with an All-Pro linebacker in Demario Davis.
This is the best news the Saints could've gotten as Alexander is expected to take on a starting role on this defensive unit. The 27-year-old appeared in seven games with the Saints last year after being acquired in a trade and racked up 27 tackles, 4 pass breakups and 1 forced fumble during that span.
When healthy, Alexander has proven he can make an impact with his coverage skills as well as his pass rushing abilities. Overall, he has posted 7 interceptions and 20 quarterback hits in his career. New Orleans is likely to ease Alexander back into action in order to prevent any kind of injury risk.
The Saints will be relying on their defense to get the job done early in the season as the team attempts to figure out its starting quarterback situation. For now, New Orleans has odds set at +110 to make the playoffs and odds set at +3000 to win the Super Bowl, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
