The Minnesota Vikings immediately drew intrigue with their selection of Kellen Mond in the third round of this year's draft. Kirk Cousins is still the clear QB1, but Mond presents a possible challenger for starting duties in the near future.
Cousins may be feeling the pressure, as evidenced by his response to a question about Mond following Friday's preseason game.
Kirk Cousins Kellen Mond
A reporter asked Cousins postgame what he thought of Mond, who finished Friday's contest strong. Instead, Cousins took a generic route and commended the team for making things close at the end, with absolutely no mention of Mond's play at all.
This was certainly an odd showing from the team's current starter. He claimed after the draft that he would help with mentoring the rookie signal-caller, yet completely ignoring a question about how Mond played after a nice performance is the exact opposite of that.
The rookie from Texas A&M completed 16-of-23 passes for 196 yards, along with an interception. Cousins went 5-for-7 with 57 yards.
Minnesota owns -106 odds to make the playoffs this season, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
