The San Francisco 49ers have high expectations ahead of the 2022 NFL season after a few deep playoff runs in the last three years. Training camp is always a great way to evaluate which players can help the 49ers with their postseason goals and it turns out one player has been separating themselves from the rest of the pack.
The 49er in question is none other than third-year wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The 24-year-old has been receiving positive reviews from coaches and teammates alike, with safety Jimmie Ward telling reporters on Wednesday that Aiyuk "has taken his game to another level."

Ward went on to say that Aiyuk is "having the best camp out of everyone on the team," regardless of position. The veteran defender credits head coach Kyle Shanahan for excelling at bringing out the best in his players, taking their confidence to the next level in the process.
"[Aiyuk's] passionate about football so you’ll see he will try to take coaching to the field because he goes out there and works. He tries to work and correct his mistakes from the film room and take it on the field.- Jimmie Ward on Brandon Aiyuk
Aiyuk has been matched against Ward and cornerback Charvarius Ward — two great defenders — in one-on-one drills throughout camp. However, neither man has been able to slow down the former Arizona State wideout from making athletic catches. Nevertheless, Aiyuk's improvements make sense.
The Reno, NV native's first two training camps were interrupted by the COVID pandemic. He's now had more time to work with his coaches and teammates to build off of the 56 receptions, 826 yards and five touchdowns he recorded over 17 games as a sophomore.
Naturally, Aiyuk's production hinges on Trey Lance's ability to excel as a full-time starting quarterback. The duo have already shown chemistry at practice, but that's different from the regular season. They connected on 10 passes for 126 yards in Lance's two starts last season.
49ers Super Bowl Odds
Aiyuk being able to take his game to the next level would certainly help the 49ers chase a championship this year. FanDuel Sportsbook currently has San Francisco available at +1600 odds (T-No. 6) to win Super Bowl LVII next February.
