Wednesday night features the third and final Game 7 we'll see in the first round of this exciting start to the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The defending champion Washington Capitals are favorites over the visiting Carolina Hurricanes, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
While the oddsmakers are favoring Washington, two major betting trends seem to suggest that it might be Carolina who advances to face the New York Islanders in the second round.
The Capitals and Hurricanes are headed to a Game 7, and that might not be great news for the defending Stanley Cup Champions.

The Caps are 5-11 all-time in Game 7s, the worst winning pct in the NHL (min. 10 Game 7s).
The Hurricanes are 4-0 in Game 7s since moving to Carolina.
Washington has the worst Game 7 winning percentage in NHL history at just 31.3 percent, while the Hurricanes are unbeaten in Game 7s since relocating to Carolina.
This being said, Washington did exorcise some of its Game 7 demons during last season's championship run, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

However, while familiar faces like Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson have remained on the roster, Washington did part ways with head coach Barry Trotz since its 2018 Stanley Cup win. So, we'll just have to wait and see how this year's team fares on Wednesday night under first-year head coach Todd Reirden.
