Kevin Stefanski Weighs in on Benching Baker Mayfield

The Cleveland Browns' offense is struggling. This Baker Mayfield-led unit has had issues putting up points and moving the ball in recent weeks, leading them to drop to a 6-6 record following Sunday night's loss.
Mayfield's play is under the microscope, and head coach Kevin Stefanski has weighed in on the recent calls to bench his QB.

Stefanski replied "Why would we do that?" when asked about benching Mayfield. The head coach admirably tried to take the heat off of his signal-caller by saying the blame falls on him.
"To not score enough, it's always a combination of things -- staying on the field on third down, trying to run the ball effectively and getting in the red zone, all of those things. But we're just not doing a good enough job, and that starts with me."
- Kevin Stefanski
It's great to see Stefanski sticking up for Mayfield, as any public criticism could push his QB down even further. But the Browns have a serious issue under center that needs fixing.
Mayfield is playing through several injures at the moment that have had a clear impact his play. Since Week 6, he's averaging a completion percentage of just 58.08% with 195.5 yards per game. He's thrown just 7 TDs (with 4 INTs) over those six games, which isn't going to get it done in a loaded AFC.
It seems like Stefanski will ride with Mayfield instead of testing out backup Case Keenum for now. Hopefully the team's Week 13 bye can get Mayfield the recovery time he needs to lead a playoff push.
