The Minnesota Vikings are full of positive vibes after their historic comeback in Week 15. However, the feeling around the team could've been much more negative if the injury scare involving star wide receiver Justin Jefferson turned out to be anything serious.
Head coach Kevin O'Connell made sure to speak up in his wideout's defense on Monday.
O'Connell is clearly not happy with the string of aggressive hits Jefferson has taken in recent weeks. The Vikings' head coach noted it's the "fifth or sixth week in a row" the wide receiver has drawn a penalty after some kind of unnecessary act from an opposing defense, and "they don't just seem to be by accident at times."
It's obvious O'Connell thinks teams are targeting Jefferson by design to shake up Minnesota's star playmaker. The record-setting wide receiver is in the middle of another career year, and the extra attention he's received because of his talents certainly hasn't gone unnoticed by opposing defenders.
Thankfully, Jefferson bounced right back from the hit he took from Stephon Gilmore on Satuday. The WR went on to torch Gilmore and the Indianapolis secondary in the second half, finishing with 12 receptions, 123 yards and 1 touchdown.
Jefferson may pop up on this week's injury report following that hit, but he's expected to be all systems go for Saturday's contest against the New York Giants.
