Monday night, Kevion Durant went to the line for the struggling Brookllyn Nets with the game on the line. Trailing by three, Durant was able to draw the foul behind the arc, earning a trio of free throws.

Durant was able to make the first one, bringing the Nets to within two points. Then Durant missed the second free throw, which forced him in a position to miss the third one on purpose in hopes the Nets got the rebound and made a game-tying or winning shot in the last few seconds. That plan failed, however, and the Nets fell to the Mavericks 96-94, now sitting at 4-7 on the season.

Kevin Durant Missed Free Throw

The missed free throw was more meaningful than just losing the game though, it broke a streak of 62 consecutively made free throws by Durant. The Slim Reaper has always been a strong free throw shooter, but this season, he had been practically automatic.

Even with the second missed free throw (that he missed on purpose), Durant is still shooting 93 percent form the charity strip this season. This season, like much of the past three-plus years of Durant's time in Brooklyn, has been a disaster. The amount of issues both on and off the court (almost none of which attributed to Durant himself) seems too many to count at this point.

With Kyrie Irving suspended from the team indefinitely right now, if Durant can't figure out a way to turn things around quickly in Brooklyn, then we might be looking at yet another lost season for the Nets in what has been one of the league's worst failed experiments thus far.
