With a long list of free agents heading into this offseason, the Seattle Seahawks had some holes to fill. They've addressed some of those already, signing tight end Gerald Everett and trading for guard Gabe Jackson. Now the team has added to its EDGE depth by adding former San Francisco 49er Kerry Hyder in free agency.
It turns out, Seattle got the former division-rival pass-rusher for a steal.
Kerry Hyder Contract
While Hyder's deal was first reported at three years, $16.5 million, it turns out the third year voids and carries $10 million in base salary. So, the Sehawks got a player coming off of a career year for basically $3.25 million over the next two seasons, which is cheap considering the EDGE market.
Hyder racked up 30 solo tackles, 18 QB hits, 10 tackles for loss and a career-high 8.5 sacks last season for the 49ers. His numbers rivaled his breakout 2016 campaign (19 QB hits, 11 tackles for loss, 8.0 sacks), showing that he clearly still has juice left heading into his age-30 season.
For Seattle, it's a win to add EDGE depth on a value deal, especially with the team lacking draft picks in 2021.
