Kenta Maeda Injury Update Could Be Disastrous for Twins

The Minnesota Twins are one MLB team that would like to hit the restart button on the 2021 campaign. After back-to-back postseason appearances, Minnesota now sits in dead last in the AL Central division. To add insult to injury, the Twins got some potentially disastrous news with starting pitcher Kenta Maeda's last injury update.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Maeda will seek second opinions on his injured forearm. The crafty veteran already finds himself on the 10-day injured list with this issue and there's concern around this injury relating to a UCL elbow problem.

Kenta Maeda Injury Update
Anytime a pitcher and UCL injury is mentioned in the same sentence, that gives MLB fans huge pause. Naturally, this drives concerns about potential Tommy John surgery. Hopefully for Minnesota, Maeda is able to avoid that threat.
Nonetheless, Maeda remains the most important part of the Twins' starting rotation. He's having a down year with his 4.66 ERA and 1.298 WHIP, but with Jose Berrios leaving at the trade deadline, he's the definitive ace of this staff.
With the Twins focused more on the 2022 campaign thanks to their spot in the standings, that's a potentially scary reality. If Maeda is forced to miss any significant amount of time, the starting rotation will be without its top two names in Maeda and Berrios next year.
