The Minnesota Vikings are ready to turn a corner with a new-look regime after missing the postseason in three of the last four years. Mike Zimmer was dismissed after a mediocre end to his eight-year run as head coach, and it seems like the Vikings stars are pleased with their new leader and offensive guru Kevin O'Connell.
Wide receiver Justin Jefferson recently discussed Minnesota's offensive evolution under O'Connell, taking a major shot at Zimmer in the process.
“We had an old-style offense last year. It’s 2022. You get into a new age and move to a new generation. Adding new things to the offense definitely allows us to be more comfortable with the offense and work in different areas of the fields.”- Justin Jefferson
Those are pretty strong words in relation to Minnesota's offense under Zimmer. Jefferson hints at a stagnant nature of this previous offense, describing it as "old" and lacking "new things."
Keep in mind, that this is from a rising superstar who set an NFL record for receiving yards in his first two seasons. The possibilities of unlocking more with Jefferson's Pro Bowl skills is a scary proposition for opposing defenses. Minnesota ranked just 14th in points per game and 11th in passing offense a year ago.
Meanwhile, O'Connell's Los Angeles Rams squad finished top-10 in both categories, including fifth in passing yards per contest.
