Alabama's Josh Jacobs is widely considered the best running back prospect in the 2019 NFL Draft and is projected by many to be the first back taken off the board.

As it turns out, the oddsmakers agree.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Jacobs (-450) is the overwhelming favorite to be the first tailback taken in the draft. Iowa State's David Montgomery (+700) and Penn State's Miles Sanders (+1400) own the second- and third-best odds to be the first back off the board, respectively.

Jacobs has wowed scouts throughout the pre-draft process thanks to great game tape and an excellent combine performance. However, it's his work ethic, mentality and character that has really vaulted him to the top of the running back chart.

Jacobs' status to be the first back picked is well deserved and is seemingly a forgone conclusion based on his odds. However, all it takes is for one team to fall in love with a particular prospect and reach for the guy they want.

The one running back that has a chance to be selected before Jacobs is Montgomery, who has seen his stock rise week after week. If Jacobs slips into the second round, there's a chance Montgomery could be off the board first.
