John Elway's inability to evaluate the quarterback position has been widely publicized. Since taking over as the Denver Broncos president in 2011, Elway has tried and failed on multiple occasions to find his franchise quarterback.

After Peyton Manning retired, Denver has experimented with names like Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, Brock Osweiler, Case Keenum and Joe Flacco. Only Flacco is still with the team. In fact, Elway's affinity for tall, rocket-armed QBs has even become something of a meme.

However, Elway might've finally found his guy in Denver's 2019 second-round pick, Drew Lock.

Lock missed the team's first 11 games this season due to a hand injury, but he was inserted into the starting lineup in Week 13 and instantly galvanized Denver's offense.

Since taking over as the starter, Lock has led Denver to a 2-0 record and the Broncos are averaging 30.5 points per game (PPG) during that span – 12.3 PPG more than their season average (including Lock's two starts).

Lock showed rare poise in his first start against the Los Angeles Chargers, leading the team on back-to-back scoring drives in the fourth quarter, ultimately setting up the game-winning field goal.

In his second start, though, Lock went on the road and completely dismantled the Houston Texans, throwing for 309 yards and three scores while completing 22-of-27 passes.

It's a small sample size, but Lock has been far more successful than any other quarterback Denver has started this season. His 8.2 adjusted yards per attempt are 1.6 more than Flacco's, and 2.4 more than Brandon Allen averaged. Lock has also thrown five TDs to Flacco's six, despite starting six fewer games.

While it's still too early to make any sweeping judgements, Lock's play has been incredibly encouraging. It's been a long wait for Broncos fans, but it looks like Elway might've finally found his franchise quarterback.
