The Buffalo Bills are getting their No. 2 wide receiver back tonight for Monday Night Football. After missing Week 5 due to a calf injury, Brown will get back on the field for a showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Facing a quietly tough Chiefs' secondary, Brown will be little more than a boom-or-bust WR3.

John Brown Fantasy Outlook

Brown was really solid as the Bills' No. 1 WR last year, turning 115 targets into 72 catches for 1,060 yards and 6 scores. However, he doesn't really profile as a legitimate No. 1 option, and the addition of Stefon Diggs has helped him transition into being one of the league's most overqualified WR2's. That helped his real-life football value, but it hasn't been great for fantasy.

After seeing 10 targets in Week 1, Brown failed to see more than 6 targets in any of his three subsequent outings, averaging 4.3 targets per game in that time (though he did miss some of Week 3 due to injury). That's a significant drop from the 7.7 per game that Brown saw in 2019.

With his team-high 14.0 average depth of target (aDOT), Brown does have a pretty high ceiling every week, but the drop in volume really hurts his floor. Essentially, Brown's value boils down to whether or not he and Josh Allen will connect on a deep ball in any given game.

Facing a Chiefs' defense that currently ranked as the league's second-best unit against the pass, per Football Outsiders' DVOA metrics, Week 6 isn't a great spot for Brown. He's a high-risk, high-reward option tonight, especially since he's coming off that calf injury.
